DHARAMSHALA: BJP MP from Kangra, Kishan Kapoor has written to his own party CM Jairam Thakur alleging that liquor mafia has become more active in the state since Corona lockdown was imposed in the country. He has written that the government should order a high-level inquiry into the episode and also probe the role of political people involved in illegal sale of liquor in the state.
It was learnt that the CM has marked the letter of Kapoor to DGP Himachal for investigation.
Kapoor in his letter has written that in the recent past the vigilance and anti-corruption department caught 1900 cases of liquor that was brought out from a bottling plant in Una district in which a congress leader had stakes.
The cases were brought out of the bottling plant without holograms that clearly illustrated that the government tax on liquor was not paid. Efforts were being made to hush up the case, Kapoor alleged.
Kapoor in his letter to the CM has also said that in Kangra district also the police recovered 800 cases of liquor that were brought out from the brewery in the state without holograms. It was strange that such huge quantities of liquor was coming out of breweries and bottling plants in the state despite the fact that excise officials are posted inside the said units.
The MP also expressed concern over the fact that till date no action has been taken against the excise officials who were posted inside the bottling units and breweries from the liquor came out illegally. This clearly illustrates that there was involvement of the liquor mafia in such acts of smuggling, the letter quoted.
Blaming a few influential people, Kapoor has also alleged that there were some people who had tried to influence the authorities investigating the case and had repeatedly rang them up. The role of such people should be probed into.
Kapoor, when contacted, admitted that he had written to the CM regarding the liquor mafia active in the state. He demanded that people who resorted to criminal acts as liquor smuggling during lockdown should be booked.
